Paballo is a woman entrepreneur running a professional cleaning company called Dust Busters Africa.

Startup Story

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Paballo Mokoqo, an entrepreneur by profession who anchors her work and involvement in initiatives on the intersection of social, economic and youth development. I utilize entrepreneurship as an outlet to impact lives and communities, with a keen focus on the economic development of women. I currently serve as the Founder and CEO of Dust Busters Africa. I aspire for my organisation to morph into a highly conducive platform for collaboration, development and up-skilling of women and youth.

What does your company do?

Dust Busters Africa’s operations are pillared on providing premium and bespoke cleaning, laundry and disinfection services for individuals and businesses of varying sizes.

Who are you targeting with your customers?

Over the past 8 years, Dust Busters Africa has served clients in both residential and crucial commercial sectors including corporate, financial services, insurance services, healthcare, education, hospitality, and non-profit organizations across Lesotho and now SA, Johannesburg.

What inspired you to start the business?

It was inspired by a personal need. As a young and busy professional, I needed a reliable and quality home help that I could trust and easily access, and there was no such solution available in the market at the time. I noticed a gap and created something I wished existed.

Can you tell us more about your entrepreneurial journey?

I began my entrepreneurial journey in 2013 as a Founder and CEO of Dust Busters Africa operating in Lesotho and later expanded to South Africa, and I have never looked back.

What challenges have you faced in your entrepreneurial journey

Aside from the common challenges faced by most entrepreneurs such as access to funding, markets, people management etc. I think self-leadership is the toughest. The shift from being employed to running your own business is not a natural transition. It requires retooling in approach, strategy, and perspective. Everything starts and ends with you, so you constantly have to learn, unlearn and relearn to make this thing work. That’s why we can’t talk about entrepreneurship without holistic personal development, so I am equally committed to the latter.

What are your future plans for your business?

My quest is to contribute to the development and growth of institutions that aim to empower women ― through Dust Busters Africa, I have begun the journey to make meaningful change and positive impact. Nationally, my immediate goal is to work towards creating dignified and meaningful work with decent pay for unskilled Basotho females. In the longer term, we plan to expand Dust Busters Africa’s footprint across the African continent to scale its impact. We are currently operating from Lesotho and South Africa.

What is most fulfilling to you about being an entrepreneur?

I have grown so much since I started – my life is filled with so much meaning and purpose by virtue of knowing that I am part something that is bigger than myself.
